Day 1 in Review - Written by Langley and Marissa
The group finally arrived in Tanzania after a long day of travel at around 8 p.m. on Wednesday (10 a.m. at home). We travelled by bus to the West Kili Lodge, where we will be staying until Saturday. The group was tired and ready to rest for our up and coming expedition. The next day, we woke up and gathered to eat some breakfast. The weather was mostly cloudy with slight rain, resulting in the weather being a bit colder than expected. After breakfast, we had orientation and prepared for the day. Additionally, after lunch, we visited a local beekeeper's home. He explained how he extracts the honey from his 800 beehives, as well as the honey's ability to treat sicknesses. While we learned about how these stingless honey bees collect pollen and nectar from different types of flowers, we all got to taste some of the honey, which was different than the honey back home but still delicious.
