Day 11
Shikamoo,
Today was our last day before our weekend getaway to Eileen’s Trees Inn. Having settled into our routine, we have adjusted to the school schedule. After a quick meeting of Menlo students, we divided into groups for a learning session. Cards, depicting different global issues like deforestation, child labor, and limited health care, were distributed among each group. We were then instructed to organize the cards into cause and effect categories, fostering a greater understanding of how each problem is interconnected.
After a tea break, we worked on the incinerator, played soccer, and even had a dance lesson! Some of the Banjika students taught us several traditional dances as we all rocked out to Swahili music. Then the Menlo students performed some classic American songs like Party in the USA and The Cup Song, leading to a full on talent show. Smaller groups sang a variety of songs ranging from musical theater tunes to church hymns. In comparison to the first day when everyone was too nervous to speak in front of more than five people, everyone felt comfortable singing at least once in front of the whole group.
Asante Sana,
Allie and Maddie
