Day 12 in review by Maddie and Allie

Day 12

Hello from Eileen’s Trees Inn!

This morning we visited the FAME hospital (the Foundation of African Medicine and Education). FAME was founded in 2006 by a couple from the US. The hospital’s facilities are almost equivalent to the hospitals at home. Through outreach in the community, we learned how FAME has been able to make a real impact. Everything from the modern maternity ward to the high tech X-Ray machines was inspiring, especially because FAME has made it a priority to keep prices of hospital visits low for community members. An X-Ray costs about seven dollars and giving birth costs about twenty-five dollars.

For the rest of the day, we relaxed at Eileen’s. The pool, western toilets, and warm showers are all a luxury after the homestays. The food is also fantastic! Everyone is excited for another day here tomorrow.
